Aedes Aegypti kills woman in Sindh

KARACHI: Dengue fever has claimed the life of a woman, bringing this year's death toll in Sindh province to 56.  The Department of Vector-Borne Diseases confirmed the death of a woman in Hyderabad, which was reported at the Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad.

In Sindh, 56 persons died owing to dengue-related problems. Of them, 48 were recorded in Karachi, including 20 in Karachi Central, 13 in Karachi East, 5 in Korangi, 4 in Karachi South, 3 each in Karachi West, Hyderabad, and Umerkot, 2 in Malir, Kemari, Dadu, and Sanghar.

In the last twenty-four hours, at least 161 more Sindh residents tested positive for dengue virus, of which 85 were recorded in the Karachi division. From January 1 to November 1, 2022, the health department recorded 19,232 dengue cases throughout the province, of which 14,715 were reported in Karachi.

Karachi East has recorded 4,538, followed by Karachi Central with 3,375, Korangi with 2,647, Karachi South with 1,982, Malir with 1,079, and Hyderabad with 2,539. The dengue virus causes dengue fever, a mosquito-borne tropical disease. The post-rainy season is ideal for the development of the infection and the proliferation of the mosquito that transmits dengue fever, Aedes aegypti.
