PMA Karachi appeals for urgent medical aid to support Myanmar earthquake victims

KARACHI: In response to the catastrophic earthquake that has struck Myanmar, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Karachi has issued an urgent public appeal for medical aid, urging the citizens of Karachi, local philanthropists, and pharmaceutical companies to step forward in solidarity.

The appeal follows a direct request from the Consulate General of Myanmar in Karachi, emphasizing the critical shortage of medical resources in the affected regions. Hospitals in Myanmar are overwhelmed, and there is a dire need for essential medical supplies to treat the injured and manage the crisis effectively.

“The situation in Myanmar is dire. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and there is a severe shortage of essential medical supplies,” the PMA Karachi stated in its appeal. “We are calling on the people of Karachi, philanthropic organizations, and pharmaceutical companies to help us provide much-needed relief.”

Urgently Needed Medical Items

The PMA Karachi is currently focused on gathering the following high-priority medical items:

• Medical Equipment: Surgical instruments, orthopedic supplies, diagnostic tools
• Transfusion Sets
• First Aid Kits: Urgently required for emergency response
• Medicines: Including antibiotics, pain relievers, antiseptics, and vaccines
• Other Medical Supplies: Bandages, gauze, syringes, disinfectants, PPE

Each item collected will directly aid frontline healthcare workers in Myanmar in treating injuries and preventing disease outbreaks.
