PMDC successfully holds NRE-I 2025 for foreign-qualified doctors

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has efficiently conducted the National Registration Examination (NRE-I) 2025, aimed at assessing the clinical competence of foreign-qualified Pakistani nationals with MBBS and BDS degrees. The exam was held concurrently across Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar under thE supervision of the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS).

Conducted in line with Section 18 of the PMDC Act 2022, the NRE serves as a standardized licensing mechanism ensuring that returning medical graduates meet the essential requirements for full registration as General Practitioners in Pakistan.

Key Stats from NRE-I 2025

A total of 5,036 candidates appeared for the NRE-I theory exam on June 1, 2025:

• Islamabad: 1,583 MBBS, 19 BDS
  
• Lahore: 2,538 MBBS, 15 BDS
  
• Peshawar: 442 MBBS, 3 BDS
  
• Karachi: 390 MBBS, 1 BDS

The theory paper began at 9:30 AM and lasted 3 hours and 30 minutes. The NRE examination comprises two phases:

• NRE-I (Theory)
• NRE-II (Clinical)

Candidates must score a minimum of 60% in both parts independently to pass.

PMDC President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj emphasized the importance of enrolling in PMDC-recognized international medical and dental institutions. He urged parents and students to verify accreditation status before pursuing education abroad, as graduates from unrecognized institutions are not eligible for registration in Pakistan.
