Unpaid salaries push Sindh Govt Children’s Hospital electrician to tragic death

KARACHI: A 48-year-old electrician, Hasnain, working at the Sindh Government Children’s Hospital, has tragically passed away after reportedly enduring severe financial distress caused by five months of unpaid salary.

Hospital sources revealed that Hasnain had served the institution for eight years with dedication. However, prolonged salary delays left him struggling to pay rent, support his family, and meet essential expenses. His house-owner had reportedly threatened to evict him by October 5 if dues were not cleared, further compounding his anxiety.

A life cut short

Colleagues said Hasnain repeatedly appealed to the hospital administration for his wages, but his requests went unanswered. Deeply distressed by his worsening financial situation, he died, leaving behind a daughter and a son who now face an uncertain future.

Calls for accountability

Hospital staff and unions expressed outrage over the incident, demanding an urgent inquiry into salary delays at the facility. They warned that non-payment of salaries not only violates labor rights but also threatens the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable healthcare workers.

“This tragedy highlights the human cost of delayed wages. Authorities must ensure timely payments to prevent such incidents,” a hospital employee said.

As of now, authorities have not issued an official statement on the incident.
