Karachi: Eminent urologist and director Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Dr Adeeb Rizvi said here that a single man can save 17 lives by donating his internal organs after his death, but in Pakistan, only five persons had donated their organs since 1980.

Speaking at a book launching ceremony held at Karachi Press Club, he said that more than two million people die every year in Pakistan owing to failure of their internal organs while failure of liver is a cause of hepatitis C.

Speaking on the occasion, renowned religious scholar and Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman categorically announced that there is no ban on organ transplantation from the religious point of view and hence the people should come forward to make Dr Rizvi’s mission a great success.

Lauding the humanitarian services being rendered by Dr Rizvi, Mufti Muneeb demanded of the government to provide him a helicopter as he travels a lot across the country for carrying out surgeries.

Noor Ahmed Shahtaz of Karachi University’s Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, KPC president Fazil Jameeli and secretary A.H Khanzada, were also present on the occasion.
