COVID-19 claims 17 more lives

KARACHI: When 17,002 tests were performed, 17 additional COVID-19 patients died, bringing the death toll to 7,727, while 3,739 new cases arose.

Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, stated that 17 more patients of COVID-19 lost their lives, lifting the death toll to 7,727, constituting a 1.5 per cent death rate. He said that 17,002 samples were tested, which detected 3,739 cases that constituted a 22 per cent current detection rate.  

He added that 7,419,686 tests had been conducted against which 514,863 cases were diagnosed, of the 91.9 per cent or 473,340 patients had recovered. 

He enlightened that currently, 33,796 patients were under treatment, of the 33,398 were in home isolation, 30 were at isolation centres, and 368 were at different health facilities. He stated that the condition of 306 patients was critical, including 21 shifted to ventilators. 

 According to the statement, out of 3,739 new cases, 3,289 were detected from Karachi, including 1,345 from District East, 773 District South, 655 District Central, 261 District Korangi, 145 District Malir and District West 110. 

Hyderabad had 145 cases, NausheroFeroze 34, Jamshoro 29, Tharparkar 20, Badin 16, Dadu 15, Thatta, Umerkot and Sanghar 12 each, Larkana 11, Tando Allahyar, Jacobabad, Khairpur and Mirpurkhas 10 each, Ghotki five, Shikarpur nine, Shaheed Benazirbad four and Matiari had one.  

Syed Murad Ali Shah asserted that 32,462,394 vaccinations had been administered up to January 18th, constituting 59.01 per cent of the vaccine eligible population.
