Professor Jahan Ara Hassan honored with lifetime achievement award by DOGANA in the United States
KARACHI: Acting Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Professor Jahan Ara Hassan, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Dow Graduates Association of North America (DOGANA) during its annual summer convention in Dallas, Texas, held recently. The prestigious honor recognizes her over three decades of service to medical education, institutional leadership, and public health advancement in Pakistan.
Recognizing three decades of excellence in healthcare leadership
A proud alumna of the 1989 batch of Dow Medical College and the first PhD graduate of DUHS (2012), Professor Hassan has made lasting contributions to women's health, postgraduate medical training, academic governance, and research. Under her leadership, DUHS has achieved several key milestones, strengthening its national and global reputation.

In her remarks, Professor Hassan expressed deep gratitude and described the award as an emotionally meaningful moment. She dedicated it to her teachers, colleagues, students, patients, and family, acknowledging their role in her lifelong journey of service.

Milestones in research, teaching, and clinical excellence
Professor Hassan is widely recognized as Pakistan's first HEC-approved PhD supervisor in gynecology, opening doors for critical research in women's health. She has authored over fifty peer-reviewed scientific papers and served on national and international research projects, besides teaching at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served as Medical Superintendent and later as Director of ICU and OT Complex at DUHS Hospital, ensuring the hospital's resilience during a critical time. Her leadership was instrumental in:
- DUHS Hospital’s successful accreditation by the Sindh Healthcare Commission
- Enhanced patient safety protocols
- Approval of six new second fellowship programs by CPSP, in addition to thirty-five existing first fellowship programs
Leading DUHS with discipline, transparency, and innovation
As Pro-Vice Chancellor, Director of Ojha Campus, and now as Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Hassan has worked tirelessly to instill a culture of transparency, institutional discipline, and academic excellence. Her dedication has inspired a new generation of medical professionals, especially women.
