Quintuplets born in Karachi as Baldia Town woman undergoes emergency C-section at 29 weeks
KARACHI: In a remarkable and rare medical event, a Karachi couple from Baldia Town has welcomed quintuplets — five babies born simultaneously — through an emergency C-section at just 29 weeks of pregnancy.
According to the hospital’s medical team, the babies were delivered prematurely and presented with low birth weight and respiratory distress immediately after birth. The delivery was performed via emergency cesarean section, a standard procedure in high-risk pregnancies to ensure maternal and neonatal safety.
Doctors quickly initiated oxygen therapy and critical neonatal support, conducting initial lab tests to assess the condition of each newborn. The quintuplets remain under intensive care, where medical teams are closely monitoring their vital signs and responding to their complex needs.
“The babies are extremely premature and had difficulty breathing at birth. They are being cared for in our neonatal intensive care unit,” a senior pediatrician shared.
Family members, while cautiously optimistic, report that the babies’ condition is gradually improving.

The father, Adnan Sheikh, who works as a driver, has been married for just one year. His brother-in-law confirmed the unexpected but joyous arrival, calling it a “blessing beyond imagination” for the young couple.
While multiple births such as this are extremely rare and medically complex, specialists note that advances in neonatal care have significantly improved survival rates and long-term outcomes for premature infants.
The healthcare team involved in the delivery stressed the importance of ongoing neonatal monitoring, respiratory support, and nutritional care in the coming weeks.
