JSMU celebrates Pakistan–Turkiye friendship week through culture, education and unity

KARACHI: Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Amjad Siraj Memon, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) celebrated Pakistan–Turkiye Friendship Week, in observance of a directive from the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The event highlighted the enduring bond between Pakistan and Turkiye through culture, art, education and shared values.

The week began with a flag-hoisting ceremony at JSMU: the national flags of Pakistan and Turkiye were raised and the anthems of both nations played, with faculty, staff and students participating enthusiastically.

A key highlight was the screening of the Turkish film “Amentü (Aqeeda)”, which portrayed themes of faith, patience and family values, and left a memorable impression on attendees.

In a special lecture titled “Understanding Rumi”, renowned poet and scholar Mr. Hijaz Naqvi explored the timeless message of Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi — love, peace and spiritual unity — further reinforcing the cultural connection between the two nations.

Students added vibrancy to the festivities by setting up cultural stalls featuring traditional Pakistani and Turkiye cuisines — including steaming cups of Turkish tea served courtesy of Vital Tea — symbolising friendship and togetherness.

Registrar Dr. Azam Khan expressed his appreciation for the organising committee, emphasising that the event beautifully reflected unity, collaboration and cultural mutual respect between Pakistan and Turkiye.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Memon reiterated that Pakistan and Turkiye share a friendship rooted in compassion, mutual respect and shared values, and said such cultural and educational exchanges promote deeper understanding among students, educators and broader society.
