ISLAMABAD: The federal government has formally handed over the management of the Islamabad Infectious Diseases Hospital and the Regional Blood Center to the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) under two agreements signed by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.
The agreements were signed during a ceremony in Islamabad attended by Federal Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal, senior ministry officials and representatives of the Indus Hospital & Health Network.
According to the Ministry of National Health Services, the management and healthcare services at both institutions will now be operated by the Indus Hospital & Health Network.
Management transferred through competitive process
Speaking at the ceremony, Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal said the agreements were finalized after a competitive selection process conducted in accordance with legal requirements and Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules.
He said an independent consultant supervised the evaluation process to ensure transparency during the selection of the management partner.
The minister noted that the Islamabad Infectious Diseases Hospital was established with assistance from China, while the Regional Blood Center was developed with support from Germany. Both facilities, he said, are equipped with modern medical infrastructure.
Government outlines objectives
Syed Mustafa Kamal said the government's objective is not simply to operate healthcare facilities but to ensure that patients receive quality, efficient and sustainable healthcare services.
He expressed confidence that the Indus Hospital & Health Network would further strengthen healthcare delivery at both institutions and help establish a sustainable system capable of serving future generations.
The federal minister also thanked officials of the Ministry of National Health Services and the Indus Hospital & Health Network for completing the process and described the partnership as an example of public service, transparency and the effective use of national resources.
Focus on preventive healthcare
During his address, the minister emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare in reducing Pakistan's disease burden.
He said improved blood screening systems and better water quality could help prevent a significant number of illnesses before they require hospital treatment.
He also stressed the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles and expressed concern over the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance, noting that antibiotic-resistant infections have increased recovery times for many patients.
Facilities to operate under Indus Hospital management
Under the agreements, the Indus Hospital & Health Network will assume responsibility for the operational management and healthcare services of both institutions.
The Islamabad Infectious Diseases Hospital provides specialized care for infectious diseases, while the Regional Blood Center supports blood collection, screening and transfusion services.
The Ministry of National Health Services said the agreements are intended to ensure the continued delivery of healthcare services at both facilities under the new management arrangement.
