KARACHI: Dr Sheikh Kaiser Waheed, President and Chief Executive of Medisure Laboratories Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. and a former chairman of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA), has passed away, marking the loss of a prominent figure in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry.
Dr Waheed served as PPMA chairman for two terms, 2006–07 and 2016–17, according to the association’s record of past chairmen. His leadership placed him among the industry representatives who contributed to the association’s engagement with pharmaceutical manufacturers and the wider healthcare sector.
His association with the pharmaceutical industry extended beyond his tenure at PPMA. In 2018, he was appointed chairman of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FPCCI) Standing Committee on the Pharmaceutical Industry. He also served as chairman of the National Forum for Environment and Health and held leadership responsibilities in the industrial community.
Dr Waheed remained engaged in pharmaceutical-sector discussions in later years. At the 8th Pakistan Pharma Summit in September 2025, he delivered a keynote address as chairman of the summit’s organising committee, discussing the industry’s opportunities and challenges, including innovation, exports, access to medicines and the need to strengthen Pakistan’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.
His public engagements also reflected an interest in social welfare and education. In 2023, he spoke about his extended family’s involvement in supporting a Green Crescent Trust school project in Mirpur Sakro, which was to be named after his late father, Shaikh Mohammad Anwer Maggoon. He had also been associated with the Karachi Vocational Training Centre and the National Forum for Environment and Health.
His contributions to the pharmaceutical sector were recognised through leadership positions in professional and business organisations, including PPMA and FPCCI.
His Namaz-e-Janazah will be held at Baitul Islam Mosque, DHA Phase IV, after Isha prayers.
The management and editorial teams of Medical News Pakistan and Dental News Pakistan extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues and the entire Medisure Laboratories team.
May Allah Almighty forgive his shortcomings, grant him the highest ranks in Jannat-ul-Firdous and bless his soul with eternal peace. May Allah grant his family and loved ones Sabr-e-Jameel, strength and patience in this difficult time.
Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un. Ameen.
