KARACHI- Secretary Health, Sindh, Dr. Fazalullah Pechuho, stated that the Social Media Campaign against life-saving vaccinations  by  connecting deaths of children in Shaheed Benazirabad  is negatively  impacting the ongoing Anti-polio Drive.

Addressing the Press Conference at Sindh Secretariat, Dr. Fazalullah said that the unfortunate incident where four children passed away in Shaheed Benazirabad, due to not maintaining the cold chain of vaccine as per standard operating procedure (SOPs) and using same syringe by administrative vaccine, is now affecting the current vaccination drive. He explained that the incident merely took place due to human error and these social media campaigns against vaccine preventable diseases are condemnable. A number of 8 health officials had been suspended over their criminal negligence of not following the SOPs.

Dr Pechuho stated that strict actions would be taken against doctors who carelessly tackled such situations, when children affected with measles’ vaccination were brought into the local hospital of Shaheed Benazirabad for treatment.

It was pertinent to mention here that, four children unfortunately died from vaccine reaction or human error, while six others also faced severe illnesses during this unfortunate incident that occurred in Shaheed Benazirabad.
