SIALKOT: Sialkot Medical College marked a landmark moment in its academic journey by holding its first-ever Convocation 2026 on Sunday, celebrating the graduation of its inaugural batch of MBBS students in the presence of parents, faculty members and distinguished guests.

The historic ceremony, held at the college auditorium, saw MBBS degrees formally conferred upon graduating students under the authority vested in the Vice Chancellor of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore.

Vice Chancellor UHS, Prof. Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. Nadia Naseem, Pro Vice Chancellor UHS, participated as the Guest of Honour.

They were joined on stage by Prof. Dr. Imran Idris Butt, Chief Executive Officer of Sialkot Medical College, Malik Arif Ali Awan, Chairman of Sialkot Medical College, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sabir, Principal of Sialkot Medical College.

The convocation formally commenced with the academic procession entering the auditorium. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sabir then invited the UHS Vice Chancellor to declare the institution's first convocation open, marking a significant milestone in the college's history.

In addition to the conferment of MBBS degrees, outstanding students were recognised with UHS achievement shields, college medals and distinction awards for their academic performance.

Scholarships were also presented to students who successfully cleared the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) during their studies, highlighting the institution's emphasis on academic excellence and global professional opportunities.

Appreciation certificates were awarded to members of the alumni association and the convocation management committees in recognition of their contributions to organising the landmark event.

Addressing the graduates, Prof. Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore congratulated the newly qualified doctors and their families on reaching an important milestone in their lives. He urged the young physicians to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, compassion and medical ethics while serving society.

The UHS Vice Chancellor also appreciated the management and faculty of Sialkot Medical College for their commitment to quality medical education and expressed confidence in the institution's continued role in producing competent healthcare professionals for Pakistan and beyond.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, group photographs and the traditional cap toss, bringing to a close a memorable day that marked the beginning of a new chapter for the college and its first cohort of medical graduates.
