Shehbaz Sharif, Bill Gates pledge stronger collaboration for polio eradication and health reforms
NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that polio eradication remains a top priority for the Government of Pakistan, appreciating the continued and valuable support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in achieving this goal.
The prime minister made these remarks during a high-level meeting with Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Gates Foundation, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
Shehbaz Sharif praised the foundation’s support for immunization and nutrition programs, as well as its efforts to promote financial inclusion across the country. He also expressed gratitude for the foundation’s generous donations following the devastating floods in Pakistan this year, and recalled its significant contribution to relief efforts during the 2022 floods.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing agenda of extensive economic reforms, cashless digitisation, and revitalisation of the economy, the prime minister stressed that the partnership with the Gates Foundation remains vital for ensuring success in public health programs, particularly polio eradication.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthen cooperation in health, nutrition, digital transformation, and socio-economic development, ensuring that collaborative efforts continue to improve lives across Pakistan.
