WHO warns of potential global measles outbreak

KARACHI: In a recent press briefing held in Geneva, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning that without urgent intervention, over half of the world's countries could confront a measles outbreak by year's end.

Expressing concern over the insufficient vaccination coverage in many countries this year, a senior advisor at WHO warned of the looming threat posed by the lack of measles immunization.

The organization underscored the critical need for prompt vaccine delivery to prevent the potential spread of measles in vulnerable regions.

According to WHO data, global measles cases surged by a staggering 79 percent last year, surpassing 300,000 reported cases.
