Researchers from the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, used AI to analyze how eyelashes interact with water. They found that their shape and hydrophobic surface allow droplets to roll off quickly — working like natural shields.

Interestingly, while human evolution reduced most body and facial hair, eyelashes remained because of their critical protective role. The research has even inspired new water-repelling false lashes that are both stylish and functional.
