Medical, dental colleges continue charging above PMDC-approved fees despite 2025-26 guidelines
ISLAMABAD: Several private medical and dental colleges across Pakistan continue to charge tuition fees well above the PMDC-approved limits, according to reports from students and parents. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has reiterated through a fresh notification that the maximum fee for new MBBS and BDS admissions for the 2025-26 academic year is PKR 1.89 million, a 5% rise from last year’s PKR 1.8 million.
However, families report that many institutions are asking for PKR 2.5 million to over PKR 3.5 million through additional and unexplained charges. Parents express concern that resisting these extra fees could jeopardize their children’s admission in an already competitive environment.
The PMDC notification explicitly states that colleges are not authorized to collect fees above the approved limit and urges parents and students to avoid paying more. Only colleges officially permitted for enhanced fees may charge extra, but no such list is currently available on the PMDC website.
Education analysts highlight that the challenge is now enforcement rather than clarity, as repeated notifications without visible action are failing to curb malpractice. While the PMDC encourages reporting violations via its official complaint portal, parents say the lack of timely responses undermines confidence in the system.
With admissions for the new academic session underway, students and parents are calling for firm regulatory measures to ensure medical education in Pakistan is not dominated by unchecked commercial practices.
