Hunger Strike By Doctors Till Demands Are Met

KARACHI- Secretary General, Pakistan Medical association Centre, Dr S M Qaisar Sajjad visited the hunger strike Camp of doctors at Karachi Press Club to show solidarity with the doctors on strike. PMA urges Sindh government to accept demands of doctors

On this occasion, he said it is very unfortunate that the long standing problem of doctors of Sindh regarding their promotions has not been resolved even after the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Doctors are perturbed by the situation which is causing a lot of distress and unrest in the medical fraternity. Doctors are on hunger strike till death, but the attitude of Sindh Government is sorrowful and distressing.

He said it is absolutely painful to know a lot of doctors appointed in grade-17, could not get their due promotion and eventually either retired or passed away in the same grade. This alarming situation should not be allowed to persist and the Sindh Government must feel its responsibilities seriously.

He demanded on that Sindh Doctors (General Cadre, Special Cadre, & Dental Surgeons) must be promoted immediately according to law with notification and postings from Board/DPC Date, the retired doctors since 07-8-2015 must be given promotions, families of Doctors who expired since 07-8-2015 must be given benefits like promotions similar to the retired doctors.

He further demanded time scale promotions must be given to all doctors of Sindh with compensation of previous service period, Sindh Doctors must be given salaries and allowance equal to other provinces of Pakistan like Punjab, KPK and Balochistan.

The Joint Secretary, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Sindh Dr Muhammad Usman Makho, Dr Rashid Lakheer and Dr Nisar Ali has continued their hunger strike. However, some male and female doctors only observed token hunger strike at KPC to show solidarity with their colleagues.

Joint Secretary, PMA, Sindh, Dr Usman Makho, said doctors from all over sindh will observe token strike outside the local press clubs in each district of province for promotions soon.

He said attitude of Sindh government with health practitioners are sorrowful and disturbing.  He said unfortunately the doctors have been deprived promotions since long and provincial government is reluctant to implement of on apex court order.

He demanded for promotions of General Cadre, Special Cadre, & Dental Surgeons on urgent basis as per law. He said compensation of previous service period, Sindh Doctors must be given salaries and allowance equal to other provinces of Pakistan like Punjab, KPK and Baluchistan.
