KARACHI: An iftar dinner was organized at the Karachi Press Club in honor of health reporters from electronic, print, and digital media, where a collective decision was made to establish the Health Reporters Association Karachi. The initiative aims to address the challenges faced by health journalists and to enhance the quality of health reporting.
The event was attended by senior journalists, including Akhtar Shaheen Rind, Bilal Tahir, Imran Pirzada, Irfan Abbasi, Ibrahim Rind, Abid Khan, Muhammad Faran, Safdar Butt, Liaqat Mughal, Shahid Mirani, Waseem Hashmi, Raja Irshad Asadi, Poon Kumar, Gul Mamond, Anwar Shaikh, and Babar Sheikh.
To lay the groundwork for the new association, an ad-hoc committee comprising health reporters was formed. The committee includes Akhtar Shaheen Rind, Bilal Tahir, Imran Pirzada, Safdar Butt, Ibrahim Rind, Abid Khan, Irfan Abbasi, Raja Irshad Asadi, and Waseem Hashmi. Their primary role will be to engage with health reporters from print, electronic, and digital media, discuss the pressing challenges they face, and finalize the operational structure of the association.
During the event, Akhtar Shaheen Rind underscored the necessity for professional training for health reporters. He announced plans to organize workshops and study tours to enhance their expertise. He also emphasized strengthening ties with the Sindh Health Department and other relevant institutions to ensure that health-related concerns are effectively highlighted while promoting positive initiatives that help restore public trust in healthcare institutions.
A heartfelt prayer was offered in loving memory of Shabana Shafiq, Jamila, and Ashfaq Anjum, esteemed health reporters who dedicated their lives to journalism and have since passed away. Their contributions to the field will always be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
