KARACHI: The measles outbreak in Sindh has resulted in the tragic loss of 17 children’s lives so far in 2025. According to the Sindh Health Department, 1,100 measles cases have been recorded between January 1 and March 8, with Karachi alone reporting 550 infections.

- Karachi East: 5 deaths
- Sukkur: 1 death
- Jacobabad: 1 death
Low Vaccination Rates Behind Measles Surge
Health experts attribute the rapid spread of measles to low vaccination rates, holding parents responsible for failing to immunize their children. Despite measles being a highly contagious but vaccine-preventable disease, gaps in vaccination coverage have fueled the outbreak.
Measles Symptoms & Complications
Measles symptoms typically appear 10-12 days after exposure and last around a week. These include:

✅ White spots in the mouth
✅ Red rash spreading from the face to the body
If left untreated, measles can lead to serious complications, including diarrhea, middle ear infections, and pneumonia.
