MN Report

KARACHI - Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that though making Pakistan a polio-free country is a big challenge, Sindh will be the first polio-free province in the country by 2016.

“We have overcome polio virus even in eight troubled union councils of Karachi,” he added.

Speaking at a news conference at his office, the minister said that in addition to polio vaccination, inject-able vaccination was introduced in Sindh and it gave a very positive result all over the world.
Replying to a question, the minister described doctors and paramedics’ strike as `unethical’ and `undemocratic’, saying provision of treatment to patients should have been their utmost priority over their perks and privileges. `Ironically, monetary benefits were given priority,” he deplored.

He said: “We have written letters to federal and other provincial governments, requesting them to update us concerning the `Health Allowance’ being demanded by the striking doctors and paramedics.”

He, however, emphatically declared that the government won’t be blackmailed with the strike.
