Minister vows to make JIMS an exemplary institute

Karachi: Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said here that Jacobabad Institute of Medical Sciences (JIMS) in coordination of USAID will be made an institution of international repute and all its technical, medical and security staff will be hired from open market.
This he said while talking to Deputy Mission Director for Sindh and Balochistan, Graig G. Buck, here at his office in Sindh Assembly building. Secretary Health Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Dr Dabeer Ahmed and Dr Zulfiqar were also present on the occasion.

The minister said all stakeholders will be taken on board to make JIMS functional because this institution will not only cater to the needs of the interior Sindh, but will also provide treatment facilities to the patients of Balochistan.

Later talking to newsmen, he said that seven Rural Health Centres, eight Basic Health Centres and 202 dispensaries are working in Thar in collaboration with HANDS, Thar Deep and other NGOs.

Replying to a question, he said that 642 LHWs and 103 midwives were being given basic training for ensuring safe deliveries and for providing initial health care to the mothers and newly-born children. He said that the first batch of 165 midwives had been trained in the first phase, while a short course will be arranged for hundreds of educated girls in the second phase.

“We are focusing on controlling deaths of ailing mothers and their babies and ensuring maximum possible health care facilities for expectant mothers to avoid premature birth,” he added.
