Ward 9B at JPMC launches gynae oncology subspecialty, transforming healthcare in Pakistan
KARACHI: In a groundbreaking development for Pakistan's healthcare system, Ward 9B of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) officially inaugurated its gynae oncology subspecialty with the session titled "From Vision to Legacy – Ward 9B, A Dream Come True". The event, organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Nighat Shah, Head of Ward 9B and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), celebrated the ward's evolution and outlined future plans to elevate healthcare standards across the country.

Ward 9B is proud to be the first public sector unit in Sindh to introduce subspecialties, starting with Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM), infertility services, and now gynae oncology. The session was a platform to showcase the ward's journey, highlighting its achievements in complex treatments, patient volumes, and transformative outreach programs that are set to improve the lives of thousands of patients.

During the session, Prof. Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor of JSMU, emphasized the academic importance of these developments, saying:

Dr. Saba Khan provided a detailed overview of the operational framework for the new gynae oncology unit, emphasizing the multidisciplinary board approach for discussing and treating complex oncological cases. Outreach program successes
Dr. Erum Majid, Associate Professor at JPMC, presented the successes of Ward 9B's MFM outreach program, which offers prenatal diagnoses via Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) to prevent thalassemia. This program, which has already established services in Tando Muhammad Khan, is now expanding to Thatta, with a third center planned for CMH Malir in Karachi.

The session, attended by Prof. Khalid Sher, Executive Director of JPMC, and a high-level delegation from CPSP, also underscored the national importance of these healthcare reforms. CPSP representatives including Prof. Ambreen Afzal (Vice President) and Prof. Muhammad Mansoor (Treasurer) were present, further cementing the significance of the event in the context of Pakistan's healthcare development.
