PMDC announces 5% MDCAT relaxation to address vacant seats for 2024–25 session

ISLAMABAD: In a significant policy move, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has approved a one-time 5% relaxation in MDCAT qualifying marks for MBBS and BDS admissions for the 2024–25 academic session. The decision comes in response to a formal request from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, citing an unusually high number of vacant seats across public and private medical institutions.

The PMDC Council deliberated on the issue in detail and agreed to amend the admission criteria strictly for the current academic year in the broader public interest.

One-time policy decision

  • This relaxation is limited to the 2024–25 session only.
  • It shall not be treated as a precedent for future admission cycles.
  • The adjustment applies across all provinces to enable optimal utilization of available educational resources.

Conditions apply

The Council emphasized that while relaxing the criteria, all admissions must be:

  • Finalized within the stipulated time
  • Carried out in full compliance with the PMDC Admissions Regulations 2023

The PMDC reiterated its commitment to upholding merit, transparency, and accountability in all decisions impacting the medical education sector.
