Sindh government announces Rs334 billion health sector allocation in FY 2025–26 budget

KARACHI: In a significant boost to the province’s healthcare infrastructure, the Government of Sindh has allocated a record-breaking Rs334 billion to the health sector in its FY 2025–26 budget, reflecting a strategic push toward modernizing public medical services and improving access across urban and rural regions.

This year’s health allocation — among the highest in Sindh’s history — focuses on tertiary care expansion, cancer treatment, maternal and child health, and institutional partnerships for sustainable impact.

Major investments announced:

Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC)

A landmark 12-storey medical tower will be constructed at JPMC Karachi, along with the completion of a 7-storey officers’ ward within the year. Upon completion, JPMC is poised to become the largest tertiary care hospital in Pakistan.

NICVD expansion

The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) will see the completion of a new OPD complex by September 2025 and the establishment of a new mess facility to support admitted patients.

Indus Hospital grant increase

The annual grant for Indus Hospital has been increased from Rs5 billion to Rs8 billion, enabling the facility to begin offering comprehensive adult cancer treatment for the first time.

Strengthening partnerships and child health:

SIUT expansion in Larkana

New SIUT centers will be launched in collaboration with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Larkana. An additional Rs2 billion has been allocated for the SIUT Oncology Center, aimed at providing advanced cancer care.

SIUT Children’s Hospital

Developed through community collaboration, this hospital will offer state-of-the-art pediatric services.

Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology

This institute will expand its operations by launching new departments and establishing a Maternal and Child Health Center in Jamshoro.

Regional Hospitals and Satellite Centers

  • A new children’s hospital in Mirpurkhas
  • Satellite centers in Shahdadpur, Qambar, Shahdadkot, Sujawal, and more locations
  • Neuro-Stroke Units to be expanded in Sukkur and Tando Muhammad Khan
  • A 30-bed hospital in Shaheed Benazirabad will be upgraded to 60 beds in a new facility

This ambitious public healthcare package aligns with the Sindh government’s long-term commitment to inclusive health access, disease management, and institutional strengthening — with a people-first approach to budgetary priorities.
