LAHORE: The Punjab Health Department has initiated a formal review into a complaint concerning Lady Aitchison Hospital after allegations emerged that the medical superintendent’s mother-in-law has been residing in the hospital’s private block for approximately four months.
According to hospital administration officials, the woman has reportedly remained in the private block of the hospital during this period, with nursing and support staff assigned to her care. The situation has raised questions regarding the use of designated private healthcare facilities within a public sector hospital.
The matter came into public attention after a video, allegedly showing the woman residing in the hospital’s private block, circulated on social media, prompting widespread discussion and concerns over administrative protocols and governance within the hospital system.
Health Department initiates review process
Officials of the Punjab Health Department confirmed that the case is currently under review. A spokesperson stated that the medical superintendent, Dr. Sobia, has submitted her response to the department regarding the matter.
The spokesperson further added that an application had been filed citing the medical condition of the MS’s mother-in-law, and the provincial health secretary is examining both the complaint and the circumstances surrounding the request.
Authorities have clarified that no final findings or disciplinary decisions have been made at this stage, and the matter remains under official assessment.
