ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has finalized and announced that the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) 2025 will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2025. The confirmation came through an official notification, putting an end to weeks of speculation surrounding the exam schedule.
This year’s MDCAT marks a significant shift in Pakistan’s medical and dental college entry framework, with changes to the syllabus, eligibility criteria, and testing protocols.
What is MDCAT?
MDCAT is the national entrance examination for students aspiring to join MBBS and BDS programs in public and private medical and dental colleges across Pakistan. Conducted under the PMDC’s oversight, it evaluates students on core science subjects along with English and logical reasoning skills to ensure uniform academic standards and merit-based selection.
Key revisions in syllabus, exam structure
To modernize the assessment process and uphold academic integrity, PMDC introduced a new MDCAT 2025 syllabus earlier this year. The revised format is designed to promote conceptual clarity, analytical reasoning, and national standardization.
Highlights of the new exam pattern:
- Total MCQs: 180
- Duration: 3 hours
- Question difficulty: 15% easy, 70% moderate, 15% difficult
- Subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Logical Reasoning
- No negative marking
Passing Marks:
- 55% for MBBS admission
- 50% for BDS admission
The syllabus has been uploaded to the PMDC website and was developed in collaboration with academic boards, admitting universities, and stakeholders from all provinces, including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Eligibility raised, test location bound to domicile
Earlier, in a major policy shift, the PMDC also raised the minimum eligibility for appearing in MDCAT 2025 from 60% to 65% in F.Sc (Pre-Medical) or an equivalent qualification.
Furthermore, the Council has restricted test center allocation to a candidate’s domicile province or region, in a bid to eliminate misallocation, favoritism, and logistical confusion. This restriction aims to improve transparency and fairness across the testing process.
For overseas Pakistani students, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will serve as the only international testing center for MDCAT 2025.
Response to MDCAT 2023 controversies
These sweeping changes come in the wake of serious controversies that surrounded the MDCAT 2024 examination, where multiple incidents of paper leaks and administrative mishandling led to widespread protests, litigation, and retake exams — especially in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Legal proceedings and public pressure forced retests in some regions and significantly damaged the credibility of the examination process. These events catalyzed urgent reforms by PMDC, with this year’s updated structure seeking to restore faith in the system.

With MDCAT 2025 reforms now implemented and the exam date locked, PMDC is urging all candidates to begin their preparation using the official syllabus, available on the PMDC portal.
The Council also advises aspirants to stay informed about registration timelines, roll number slips, and preparation materials through official communication channels.
