Foundation stone of new block of Dow College of Pharmacy at DUHS

KARACHI- The Sindh Minister of Health, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, said that there are many vacancies for doctors in interior Sindh, especially Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors of Basic Sciences. Apart from Dow, these vacancies exist in many other different educational institutes of the province. These positions have to be filled by the passed out graduates of basic sciences, and the Government of Sindh would like to welcome them openheartedly.

She said this during her speech on laying the foundation stone of a new block of the Dow College of Pharmacy at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Ojha Campus. The Vice-Chancellor of DUHS, Prof Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, Pro Vice Chancellors, Prof Khawar Saeed Jamali, Prof Zarnaz Wahid, and Prof Kartar Dawani, Principal, Dow College of Pharmacy, Prof Sumbul Shamim, and a large number of students were present at the event.

At the beginning of the event, the foundation stone of the new block was formally unveiled by the Sindh Minister of Health, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho. She said that Pakistan is in need of postgraduates of clinical pharmacy and she hopes that the students of the Dow College of Pharmacy are capable enough to fulfil this need. She also expects that the Dow College of Pharmacy would be producing and providing top quality clinical pharmacists to pursue their career as a professional in the near future.

Prof Saeed Quraishy spoke at the event and revealed that the new block of the Dow College of Pharmacy would be completed within a short time span of 18 months. The building will be equipped with the latest and advanced facilities and technology available for the teachers and students. The building is designed in such a way that the old block along with the new block will stand beautifully together at a vast area.

Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Zarnaz Wahid, said that the Dow College of Pharmacy was established in the year 2007 and ever since has been providing pharmacy specialists to serve the country. She thanked Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho for gracing the event with her presence and laying down the foundation stone and said that as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Dow University, she would take this project further under her own guidance.

She told that the Sindh Minister of Health is also an MBBS graduate from Dow Medical College.

At the end of the event, Prof Saeed Quraishy presented a shield as a token of remembrance to Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho.
