KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has conducted the first day of the final phase of merit-based MBBS seat allocation for 2026 admissions, accommodating candidates ranked 1–469 for four public-sector medical institutions in Karachi, with the remaining candidates scheduled for allocation on Sunday, November 8.

The two-day process, being held at Sindh Medical College, JSMU, covers seats at Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College (SMBBMC), Lyari.

According to the university, candidates ranked from 1 to 469 were accommodated on Saturday, November 7, while those ranked 470 onward will be accommodated on Sunday, November 8.

The allocation is being conducted under a merit-cum-choice system, whereby seats are allotted according to candidates' merit positions and institutional preferences. Representatives of the participating medical colleges are also present to coordinate and oversee the process.

Emphasising the importance of merit and transparency, JSMU Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon said the university's priority was to ensure that every seat was allocated strictly according to candidates' merit positions and stated preferences.

"Merit and transparency remain central to this process. Our priority is to ensure that every seat is allocated strictly in accordance with the candidate's merit position and stated preferences," he said.

Candidates scheduled for Sunday's allocation have been advised to report to Sindh Medical College at 9:00 am with their original documents, including their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) or B-Form, admit card and merit list slip.

The university said allocation results would be displayed on its official website, www.jsmu.edu.pk, as well as on university notice boards.

JSMU prepares centralised private-sector MBBS, BDS admissions

Separately, JSMU has initiated coordination with private-sector medical and dental colleges across Sindh to establish a centralised and uniform admission process for MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programmes for the 2026–27 academic session.

The university convened a high-level meeting with representatives of private medical and dental institutions on November 6, chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon.

Organised by the Office of Admissions under Director Admissions Dr Fatima, the meeting focused on coordinating admission procedures, promoting merit-based selection and ensuring transparency across participating institutions. Director Affiliation Dr Rahat Naz also attended.

JSMU announced that the private-sector admission process would be made public on November 8, with the application form available through the university's official website. Prospective applicants will be able to access and submit their applications online, while individual colleges will publish their prospectuses and approved fee structures on their respective websites.

The university also said the admission announcement would appear in leading newspapers, including Dawn, Jang and Kawish.

During the meeting, Professor Amjad Siraj Memon emphasised the importance of merit and transparency in the admission process and appreciated Dr Fatima for organising the meeting and coordinating with participating private institutions.

The two developments represent separate admission-related activities: the final allocation of public-sector MBBS seats in Karachi and preparations for a coordinated private-sector admission process covering medical and dental programmes across Sindh.
