Mother and child Health Centre inaugurated at Gadap

KARACHI: Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Minister for Health, Sindh recently inaugurated a mother and child health centre at the Basic Health Units (BHU) Laasi Goth, Gadap. The Chief of Field Office, Sindh, Ms Cristina Brugiolo, UNICEF and officers from the EPI (Expanded Program on Immunization) and the EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) Sindh were also present at the occasion. The health center was also equipped with an operational labour room and the facility would be functional 24/7. A world standard EPI centre, which had been refurbished with the support of partners was also established.

Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, while talking to the media, stated that Sindh Government made several EPI centres and mother and child health centres in areas. She said that earlier there were no health facilities but now such facilities would be provided for people who need them.

Azra said, “We do not just want to address EPI and polio; we want to offer an integrated package with nutrition, birth registration, childbirth, and promote safe hygiene practices.”

She noted that the typhoid campaign was a success, and 95% of the target of 10.1 million had been achieved.

She congratulated the staff and officers for this achievement and recognized the media's role in promoting vaccinations and thanked them for their support.
