Doctors and nursing hostels illegally occupied in JPMC

KARACHI: The 96 Doctors Mess and Nursing Hostel of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) are being illegally occupied by outsiders for several years now, close sources state. The hospital administration is unable to take action in this regard.

Reliable sources at JPMC state that the doctors of Jinnah Hospital are staying in the 96 doctors hostel, despite completing their training. They are not vacating the premises, despite repeated notices from the management. These illegal occupants are said to belong to influential families in Sindh while also being backed by the Young Doctors Association and other doctors' organisations. They are working as private practitioners but illegally reside in Jinnah Hospital.

Similarly, some nursing students and others living illegally in the nursing hostel include names like Noureen Aslam, a former student, and Uzma, a family planning officer. These illegal residents pay rent to the hostel in charge and nursing supervisors. Some rooms in the nursing hostel have also been illegally allotted to the doctors mentioned before.

When contacted, Prof Dr Shahid Rasool, Executive Director, JPMC, said that the institution would oust the illegal personnel soon and take action against involved officials after an inquiry.
