60 More Chest Pain Units to Be Established Across Sindh

KARACHI- The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in collaboration with the Government of Sindh has decided to establish 60 more state-of-the-art Chest Pain Units across the province of Sindh, in fiscal year 2018-19, in order to facilitate patients suffering from chest pain.


These new Chest Pain Units would be established throughout the province within a year, out of which 20 will be setup in Karachi and 40 in different localities of interior Sindh. Each unit will be equipped with appropriate diagnostic testing facilities,to identify patients with acute heart attack and will also be equipped to resuscitate patients who become unstable.


These CPUs are being designed to provide preliminary emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks and other cardiac issues. After providing initial treatment, the patient will be shifted immediately to the tertiary care setup at NICVD Cath Lab.


Chief Operating Officer, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Azra Maqsood  stated that, NICVD initiated a new era of heart healthcare with the launch of its first Chest Pain Unit almost a year and a half ago. They have successfully established 07 Chest Pain Units under flyovers at Gulshan Chowrangi, Gulbai Flyover, Malir Halt, Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Nagan Chowrangi, within a clinic near II Chundrigar Road and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Cardiology at Sindh Government Lyari General


She also informed that these 07 Chest Pain Units have been treating hundreds of patients on a daily basis. This service is one of its kinds and is available 24/7, throughout the year.


NICVD is committed to provide state-of-the-art cardiac treatment to the people of Sindh at their doorstep, totally free of cost.


Furthermore, she informed that NICVD is introducing heart surgeries, including coronary artery bypass graft, arrhythmia surgery, aortic valve surgery and congenital heart surgery in NICVD Larkana and Tando Muhammad Khan, after the completion work on their Operation Theaters (OTs). These heart surgeries are already being performed in National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Karachi and Sukkur, respectively.
