SPGS DUHS holds orientation day for FCPS and MCPS trainees – January 2026
KARACHI: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), through its School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), successfully conducted the Orientation Day for newly inducted FCPS and MCPS trainees for January 2026-A Session, at the Muin Auditorium, Dow Medical College (DMC) Campus.
The orientation marked the formal beginning of postgraduate training for the new cohort, bringing together institutional leadership, faculty members, supervisors, and trainees in an environment focused on professionalism, ethics, and academic excellence.
A formal, reflective start
The program commenced at 10:00 AM with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem, setting a respectful and reflective tone for the day. Senior leadership from DUHS and SPGS was present, underscoring the importance the university places on structured postgraduate training.
Emphasis on empathy, professional values
Delivering the welcome address, Prof Sajida Qureshi, Principal SPGS, outlined the vision, structure, and standards of postgraduate training at DUHS. She emphasized that postgraduate education goes beyond clinical competence, highlighting empathy as a core pillar of healthcare, describing it as a quality that transforms a doctor into a healer.
She also administered the professional oath, reaffirming the trainees’ commitment to integrity, fairness, and ethical medical practice.
Guidance from university leadership
Addressing the trainees, Prof Dr Nazli Hossain, Vice Chancellor DUHS, congratulated them on their merit-based selection into one of Pakistan’s leading public sector medical universities. She shared guidance and insights to help trainees navigate the academic, emotional, and professional demands of postgraduate medical careers.
Understanding expectations, training pathways
Prof Danish Haseen, Vice Principal SPGS, provided a comprehensive overview of institutional expectations, professional responsibilities, and FCPS training protocols, including registration procedures and academic requirements.
This was followed by Dr Bilal Azmi, Program Coordinator, and Prof Sonia Siddiqui, Vice Principal SPGS, who elaborated on academic rigor, assessment and feedback mechanisms, and DUHS policies related to professional conduct, harassment prevention, and plagiarism.
Interactive engagement, clarity
The session concluded with an interactive Question & Answer segment, allowing trainees to seek clarity on academic processes, assessments, and institutional policies as they embark on their postgraduate journey.

The Orientation Day served as a vital platform to foster preparedness, ethical practice, inclusivity, and a strong sense of belonging among newly inducted trainees.
