Karachi Press Club collaborates with Hamdard University for eastern medicine and hijama camp
KARACHI: The Karachi Press Club (KPC), in collaboration with Faculty of Eastern Medicine, Hamdard University, successfully organized a special eastern medicine and hijama (cupping therapy) camp for journalists and their families. The initiative aimed to promote holistic healthcare while providing accessible and time-tested treatment options for the press community.
The camp featured free medical checkups, herbal medicines, and hijama therapy conducted by experts from Hamdard University’s Faculty of Eastern Medicine. Practitioners highlighted that eastern medicine and hijama are centuries-old healing methods known to strengthen the immune system and improve overall health. They further emphasized that herbal medicines are often more compatible with the human body compared to allopathic treatments, which may sometimes cause side effects.
The event was attended by leading figures, including KPC President Fazil Jamili, KPC Secretary Sohail Afzal, Health Committee Secretary Hamid-ur-Rehman, Dean of the Faculty of Eastern Medicine Prof. Dr. Arshad Mahmood, Assistant Professor Hakim Zahoor-ul-Hassan Zaidi, Hakim Muhammad Raees Khan, Dr. Asim Bashir, Hakim Amjad Ismail, Hakim Anas, and physician Sabahat Dar.
KPC President Fazil Jamili appreciated the initiative, noting that while Pakistan recognizes multiple systems of treatment—including allopathy and traditional medicine—eastern medicine remains a highly effective and time-tested method that requires greater promotion. He thanked Hamdard University for bringing these services to journalists and their families.
KPC Secretary Sohail Afzal suggested formalizing an agreement with Hamdard University to ensure continued healthcare services at the club. Health Committee Secretary Hamid-ur-Rehman added that the press club organizes not only recreational activities but also health-related programs, announcing upcoming awareness camps focused on heart disease, diabetes, and neurological disorders.
Dean Prof. Dr. Arshad Mahmood reaffirmed Hamdard University’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Karachi Press Club, ensuring wider access to holistic healing and preventive care. Supporting this view, Hakim Amjad Ismail noted the growing acceptance of alternative medicine in Pakistan, especially hijama and herbal remedies, which gained renewed popularity after the COVID-19 pandemic.
This collaborative camp represents a meaningful step in promoting traditional medicine, bridging healthcare gaps, and expanding the role of eastern medicine in modern health systems.
