Provincial Minister for Environment & Costal Development and the Chairman of Sindh Health Advisory Board - Dr Sikander Ali Mandhro has recently announced that; A plan has been devised to provide latest equipment and quality medical facilities at public healthcares of Sindh, by seeking coordination with well-known private institutions in the health services sector.
The minister expressed his concerns, while chairing an important meeting held at Sindh Assembly. The Secretary Health of Sindh - Iqbal Hussain Durrrani, officials of Sindh Advisory Board, representatives of Indus Hospital, Bahria Foundation and other senior officers of Law Department were also present in the meeting.
Dr Mandhro said; The Provincial government wants to take advantage of the expertise and experience of well-known private health institutions in order to up-grade the health delivery systems in government-run hospitals of Sindh province.
It was decided in the meeting, after a brief discussion, that; The Lyari General Hospital Karachi, Civil Hospital Hyderabad and District Headquarter Hospital Badin would be handed over to the private sector during the first phase of this program. In this connection, the government would authorize the private sector to spend the annual funds of these government hospitals, while private sector would also provide financial support and manpower including; well-qualified doctors, medicines, medical staff, services to improve the administrative and operational affairs.
It was also decided in the meeting that; A board comprising of medical experts, public representatives and philanthropists would be formed, to look after administrative and medical services affairs of these healthcare institutions.
It was further decided among the health officials, that representatives of private institutions will help in preparing a report on this matter, which will be presented in the next meeting to be held within ten days. The panel will review the affairs of these hospitals and make recommendations for the government and private institutions. An MOU will soon be signed by the concerned departments to implement the improvements.
