Sindh govt formally appoints Dr Khalid Sher as Executive Director JPMC
KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially appointed Prof Dr Khalid Sher as the Executive Director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), confirming a leadership transition that Medical News first reported on Nov 24, days before the formal notification was issued.
According to a notification issued on December 1, 2025, by the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department (SGA&CD), the services of Dr Khalid Sher — Professor of Neurology at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (BS-21) — has been transferred to the Health Department on deputation for three years and placed as Executive Director, JPMC, with immediate effect.
The post had fallen vacant after the sudden death of former Executive Director, Prof Dr Shahid Rasul, who passed away from a heart attack on November 14, 2025, at the age of 59.

Medical News had earlier reported, citing credible departmental sources, that Dr Khalid Sher had been selected following a rigorous assessment process. A panel of three senior Grade-20 professors was evaluated, after which the Health Department finalized his name based on seniority, administrative experience, and professional performance.
Sources had also confirmed at the time that Dr Sher was expected to serve until his retirement in 2029, providing continuity for JPMC’s long-term planning and governance.

Senior officials within the institution say Dr Khalid Sher’s appointment comes at a crucial moment, as JPMC undergoes extensive infrastructure upgrades, expansion of specialty services, and reforms in administrative efficiency. His familiarity with the institution and strong academic background are expected to bring stability to ongoing projects.

The leadership change follows the unexpected death of Prof Dr Shahid Rasul, who suffered a sudden heart attack on November 14 and could not be revived despite urgent medical intervention at Renji Hospital. His passing left the medical community in deep grief, with colleagues remembering him as an inspiring administrator, mentor, and reform-driven leader who strengthened JPMC’s role in Pakistan’s public health system.
